So, since letting the world know about Ideal Protein, I have gotten TONS of encouragement.
See, yesterday I posted something on the Ideal Protein facebook page. I didn’t realize ANYONE could see it in their newsfeed. I had forgotten that, since i have gone to just about EVERYONE’s facebook & marked it so that it would NOT show me all their comments & likes! Apparently not everyone has done that! Haha!
But it’s okay, because I have gotten SO MUCH encouragement about it!
I first noticed people “liking” my post, people that i knew hadn’t liked this Facebook page. Then some friends commented on the post (and they hadn’t liked the page itself). But all encouraging comments. One was a friend named Jennifer from the theatre. That makes the third person i know from the theatre that is on Ideal Protein! And all have had fantastic results.
And then people in the IP group have commented with some advice for getting started.
Another friend texted me all excited because she saw my post, and she and her boyfriend are about to start Ideal Protein as well. Woohoo!
A couple of people had emailed me asking how it works.
There are four phases. I know that you are on Phase 1 until you have reached 90-100% of your goal weight. Phase 2 is 2 weeks after that, Phase 3 is the 2 weeks after Phase 2. And then Phase 4 is maintenance.
There are plans in place for if you messed up – what to do that will get you immediately back on track.
I haven’t paid too much attention to that or to Phases 2-4, because Phase 1 is going to be the majority of the time! And is first! So that’s what i need to get my bearings on!
Phase 1 goes like this…
Ideal Protein breakfast + vitamins
Ideal Protein snack
Ideal Protein lunch + 2 cups of veggies
Ideal Protein snack
my own dinner = 5 oz meat (or 7 oz if fish) + 2 cups veggies
I found out the meat & 2 cups veggies meal can be for lunch or even breakfast instead. You just eat the Ideal Protein meals for your other two meals.
Fruit & Dairy is not allowed in Phase 1! I have stopped eating fruit & my beloved yogurts (but still eat cheese right now!). I stopped the fruit & yogurts when I knew i was starting IP – might as well get used to it now! Guess cheese will be the next thing to go. 😉
The only dairy you can have is 1 oz skim milk with your coffee or tea.
I am okay with letting go of the dairy/fruit for now. It is introduced slowly & at limited portions once you’re in Phase 2, 3, or 4 (can’t remember which! Really focusing on 1 for now!).
So that is the basics of it! It is a doctor-approved program. Weightloss centers & doctor offices are holding this program all over the place. Metabolic clinics support it. My personal trainer recommended it to me when I was doing bootcamp, as well as my nurse practitioner from the metabolic clinic.
You do meet with them weekly to weigh, receive coaching, nutritional counseling, etc. I like that, because i want the weekly face-to-face meetings. I think that will help me a lot!
I have heard NOTHING but good about this program! The only person who said something negative said it was because she couldn’t follow it with her travel schedule. Others who travel do it, though. (I rarely travel; the woman who told me this travels weekly because of her job.) Everyone who has done it has great results. There isn’t a person on the facebook forum that says “it isn’t working!” unless they admit to cheating.
That is one thing. It will NOT work if you cheat. If you do cheat, they have ways to get you right back on track. I don’t mean it’s the end of the world. I just mean there is not room to play around. Which is fine. I’m done playing around. I’ve been done!
Since going paleo-ish, the weight still isn’t coming off. I don’t know the last time i had a piece of bread! I will admit – i don’t eat that healthy EVERYDAY, but most days. I guarantee i eat better than most people you know! I definitely eat better than most people i know! There’s no sneaking around, eating chips! Haha. I am honest about what i eat here.
What am i doing wrong, then? What is the difference between what I am doing now & what Ideal Protein has to offer?
Well… I’m not sure. But here are some things that might contribute:
1 – I don’t and have never gotten in the habit of portion control. The portions i eat seem fine to me, but maybe they’re not?! I cannot keep with counting calories, either. I’m either counting calories or counting carbs, but never both at the same time & even if i just count one or the other, i don’t stick with it. IP telling me EXACTLY what to eat & how much…that might make a difference.
2 – I do cheat. At times. Not often. In a given week, I would say 4-5 days are on track. This past week for example – one one day i had burger king for lunch! GASP! On another day i had a skinny coffee frappuccino. Obviously, the BK meal was AWFUL, the coffee frap wasn’t awful, but wasn’t a great idea either! That would be an example of me cheating in a whole week. In Ideal Protein, there’s no room to cheat. The money you are spending on Ideal Protein food makes it just NOT WORTH IT to spend MORE money on crap! And we do not keep crap food in the house (the only food Brad brings in that i can’t have, is food i don’t like anyway. Such as certain cereals & root beer. Gross.).
That’s the differences I can see for now. Who knows, maybe i will find more when i start. I do think the meals I’ll be eating on IP (the dinner that i make myself) will teach me to cook that way & eat that way long after the program is over. And that’s another thing. Even though it’s medically-supervised quick weightloss, their success rate for keeping the weight off afterwards is HIGH. Very good. (And, as a side note: you are losing FAT, not muscle mass, as opposed to other fast-weightloss diets).
So there you go. We shall see. I am very excited, and so thankful for the encouragement I have received so far. I will say this: I believe if i had gone with my Nurse Practitioner & Personal Trainer’s advice to go with Ideal Protein a few years back, I don’t think i would have succeeded. I think i would have wanted to try easier ways first (not that trying Weight Watchers or calorie counting or other diets is ever easy! But they aren’t as strict as IP!). I think i had to go through all of this TRYING & STRUGGLING to know that this is what i want, that it is worth the cost, and that it is worth the restrictions!
I have prayed about this & truly believe it is right for me. I had told God i wanted to do what the doctor suggested, no matter what it was. She suggested HMR, and I ended up going with Ideal Protein – but they are similar. I just think IP is a better fit & less expensive. It still counts, since the metabolic clinic recommended it (& had never heard of HMR!). What I am saying is, I had to do SOMETHING different. Because what I’ve been doing isn’t working. And I’m done with trial and error. I am ready to win.
Thanks for your support, as always! Can’t wait to officially start Ideal Protein & let you know how it goes!!
