Almost Famous (A Love Letter To Anonymous).

Friday night I received a comment in my About Me section from an "Anonymous" person that went a little something like this:
My initial reaction was the following:
Then I thought it was the ever-so-infamous Anonymous but they didn't call me a whore so I could only deduce this was a new person. I sensed that in writing about it I'd be giving them credit they clearly don't deserve, but there's no shame in admitting it stung to be told my blog sucked (I work my ass off on this thing day in and day out).
Then I hit "Approve Comment" and opened a bottle of champagne with some girlfriends and forgot all about it two minutes later.
For those of you who've been living under a rock and never read Hyperbole and a Half, you can go here, as it's possibly the funniest site I've encountered after The Oatmeal (which you can view here). Its writer deserves all the praise she's garnered, as she is super talented and hilarious.

But even though there are some similarities between Hyperbole and a Half and Red Means Go, I don't think they're all that striking:

To My Anonymous Haters
If being unoriginal means I'm not the only girl with a vagina between her legs and two eyes under her forehead and a nose used for breathing and one boob that's slightly bigger than the other well... My sincere apologies.

I'm really sorry I'm not an alien and write my blog posts in Latin.
How dare I think or express the same thoughts someone else may have had in the last millenia?

And climbing the ranks of the internet in only a year? I'm such a bitch for doing that!

Dreaming of being more than an assistant who makes a little over minimum wage is overrated and I have you to thank, for helping me see the light.

I'm so grateful you took the time to acknowledge my existence and pour your infinite internet knowledge upon my brittle and under-developed brain. I have to tell you though, I rather enjoyed getting under your skin (it's warm and fuzzy and smells of brownies).

Here, I made you a little something just before I send you to go f*ck yourself with a spiked baseball bat.
XoXo,
Annah

Good for you! I'm a fan of both your blog and Hyperbole and a half and have never thought you we're much alike.

F you Anonymous people who feel the need to leave rude/mean coments on any blog. If you don't like it don't read it.

Oilfield Trash said...

Thanks for the laugh. Screw em.

Oh and I don't believe you about the boob being larger than the other. Maybe you should post a pic, oh wait you already have. lol

Love your blog. And the hell with the hater/s.

I fucking love you. Have I told you that lately? And no, I'm not going to be in the area anymore which gives me the major sads because someone stole a shit ton of money from me (cash) and couldn't afford to go anymore. So while there are there NOW, I'm here drinking vodka. Alone. Cheers!

This post is a great way to show the anonymous stupid commenter that you will rock no matter how hard they try to discourage you.

once again, your ultra-original, very hilarious blog cracked me the eff up!! thanks for the wine shooting out my nose. xo

Ah, you know Latin. Then you of course know that 'Anonymous' is derived from the Latin word 'anōnymus,' meaning "scabby-dicked fist-fucker who hasn't seen a live vagina since the day he popped out his momma's twat." I highly recommend you continue to invite him to give himself desperate lubeless hand jobs before his mom walks in on him and tells him to get a job.

 you're still a whore.

"go fuck yourself with a spiked baseball helmet".

Ouch. And I seek to use it when some douche bag hits on me. :o)

Like Hyperbole and a Half was the first blog to do self drawn pictures? They were doing that on 4chan way before she made her blog. It's not about how many people do it. It's about how WELL the blogger uses the pictures they draw themselves.

Meh. Anonymouses that leave hateful comments are cowards. (Seriously.) If I was going to call you a whore, I'd sign in and say it.

But you're not a whore. (I believe the definition of a whore is a person who gets paid for sexual encounters. I could be wrong, though. Anonymous might know better than me despite my stunning IQ and dedication to the written word.)

Sadly, your last pic looks similar to my senior yearbook photo.

Just sayin. I used to be a cockeyed girl too.

Speaking of cock, HEY ALLIE BROSH! If you're reading this, do some r-and-x rated posts. Talk about sex. It could be fun, and then I could compare you to RMG.

Some jackass once tried to say I was ripping off Hyperbole and a Half too. What the fuck. I've drawn about 8 pictures in 200+ posts.

Plus she's generally upbeat, while most of the time all I do is bitch about things.

people who hide behind anonymity to belittle other people are to be pitied, not ridiculed. what a sad, strange, lonely life they must have to feel the need to hide behind complete anonymity and never take credit for their beliefs or opinions (no matter how shitty they are).

how terrible it must be that the only way they can get attention is to leave nasty, snide comments on someone's personal work with the pure intent of disrespect.

sad, really. i don't hate anonymous people. i pity them. if i saw them, i'd give them a hug and ask who didn't love them enough when they were growing up.

oh, and my right BEWBZ is bigger than my left too.

That last picture made me spit out my drink! THANKS! You're Tony the Tiger GREAT, so who cares what Oblivous/Anonymous thinks! :)

Candice said...

I agree with Chanel. People who anonymously leave angry comments are total, complete cowards.

Your blog is original. Trust me. No matter which parts of it could be seen as similar to what other people do, you have your own style of writing and drawing that keeps everything you do here unique.

To all the Anonymouses out there: Get Bent!

Sharon Wright said...

I found you first..sooooooo......Hyperbole and a Half is copying you!

Well said Annah! Screw what that half-witted jacktard thinks. You are an original and we love you! And your drawings are positively fabulous!!

*Go Annah, it's ya burfday!*

Haha. Nicely done! Also - kudos on the 8-month leap in ranking! That's pretty darn impressive! And here's me happy when I get 18 blog views in a day =P

Keep up the good work, don't let anybody bring you down. You write an excellent blog, one that I can safely say I look forward to each installment of, and you're a talented writer.

As a blogger who just started out blogging on a consistent basis last month, I must say you are one of my blogging heroes.

You're funny, charming and a damn good writer.

It's obvious you work your ass off on this blog and it definitely shows in your posts and writing.

The reason why people love your blog is because so much of it conveys your personality and that is something a lot of bloggers (ahem, me) are trying to learn how to do.

No matter what you do, bitches are gonna hate. So fuck 'em. As you can tell by your outraged readers, A LOT more people love you and your blog than dislike you.

Mynx said...

How can you be anything like Hyperbole and a half when you entertain us pretty much daily and it has been months since the last post there.
I found you first and you are totally awesome, dont let someone too weak to even sign their name make you think less of yourself.

lol - what a fucker!

Honestly, I like your blog (it was suggested to me through The Blogess' "Things I wish I thought of but didn't" page. The fact that she put you in there speaks for itself. Fuck Anonymous, keep the drawings coming!! :)

Jaclyn said...

OMG, you know Hyperbole and a Half gets anonymous comments too, telling her how much she sucks. You probably posted that comment yourself just so you could be more like her! Everything you do is wrong and everyone hates you.

:)

Yeah. Let bitches hate.

Your originality and honesty is purely why I love Red Means Go. Not to mention that you are adorably cute and write about REAL life experiences. And you aren't afraid to write about being happy, sad, or however you feel. Love you sweetie and anyone that doesn't should just go away.

Ana Maria said...

Annah - I've been religiously reading your blog for about a year. I've never missed a post. I thought I'd finally show you some love because I'm tired of all the anonymous hate.

Your blog is awesome. And add another ten points to yourself for persistency because you actually update your blog on a regular basis, unlike Hyperbole and a Half.

:)

I about lost it on "Magister Mundi Sum, fucker"
BRILLIANT.
You just keep on keepin' on, and I'll keep on readin' on. Mwah!

Annah said...

I am super excited about upcoming posts and you guys are the best readers in the world. I will never get tired of saying it because all your asses need kissing (so *muah*). If there were no haters there would be no famosity. So I'm prepared for the hate storm to continue, but this is the last time I intend to actually write about it. Unless something really funny happens.

J. Day: I use that phrase all the time. It makes me look tough or something.

Ana Maria: Thanks for taking the time to post a comment. :) HUGS.

Danger Boy: I had a stroke of genius there for a brief moment. I guess my under-developed brain works sometimes. Ten more points for me!

Katsidhe said...

I've apparently been living under a rock because I've never heard of either of those blogs. >.>;

However I ADORE your blog, lovely Annah.~ *mwah*

Wanna know what Hyperbole and a Half and The Oatmeal have in common? (Besides being hilarious and having awesome drawings.) They're both written by people from Idaho. Which, if I haven't mentioned it before, is where I'm from. So I'm a little proud of my shitty little state on that one. It's just too bad they're probably the only two funny people to ever come out of here. -sigh-

Fred Miller said...

That could be the same "Anonymous" who gave Allie so much shit. Complete trouser stain.

Love you, Babe.

Christine said...

Some other blogger once wrote an entire post about how my blog was copying Hyperbole and a Half...really for no other reason than for drawing cartoons.

That is like saying anyone using paint is copying Van Gogh...I mean...come on!

Christy said...

I must live under a rock because I have no idea who that is but then again, YOU are the only blog I follow regiously! It is the shishhhhhhh!! Please DONT ever stop!! MY days would be incomplete :) PS LOVEEEE THE PICSSSS!! Very candid! lmao

Steve Bailey said...

Screw you anonymous!!! I'm totally with you... and I don't even have a vagina or one larger boob!

Vina said...

Thanks for making me laugh with your posts and drawings! I've always gotten the impression that Anonymous (the one that always calls you a whore) actually LOVES you and your blog...who else would spend the time making the comments?
As for Anon #2, forget him. Obviously you have THOUSANDS of followers who love what you do...
Keep up the great work!

Annah said...

Love reading the comments of people who've been reading for a long time but hadn't commented until now. It feels nice to know you're out there <---- that sounded uber creepy, I know.

Katsidhe: Adore you back babe. But how can you not have heard of The Oatmeal or Hyperbole?!

Toni: You learn something new everyday. Did *not* know that... That guy from The Oatmeal also happens to be very cute too, so he wins.

Christine: Screw those people.

Fred: Love you back!

Chris: Can you believe those pictures only took one try? I'm so fabulous :) LMAO

Steve: That would be quite interesting if you did. You'd be famous!

Vina: I think Anonymous has a MASSIVE crush on me or something. I agree. And yes, the other one has already been forgotten and exorcised, via this post.

dirtycowgirl said...

Fuck em !

As it happens you are not the only one who has a slightly similar style to Hyperbole. I follow another - much newer - blog and the writer of that was pretty much hounded by an anonymous person who tried to start a hate campaign against her for 'copying' HB.

So nobody else is allowed to draw cartoons on their blog?
What rubbish.
That's like saying there is only room for one punk band because all the others are copying.
Hyperbole might be the original (or just the first to become so well known) but she just highlighted a trend.

Even I sometimes make (crap) pics with paint for my blog.

Funny how the abusive ones are always anonymous though.
No bollocks.

Anony said...

I was trying to give you some constructive criticism, you ungrateful whore. Can't appreciate SHIT!

in the immortal words of LMFAO's Party Rock "STOP - Hatin' is bad!" Really quite the fuck off you gave to anon... kudos!

Annah said...

Random Girl: Amen.

Anony: Are you for real? Ha! You're seriously hilarious.

Eddy: The left. Slightly. Nothing to sneeze at.

Random Girl: Love that song.
