It's never been more evident why some of the greatest writers have gone to the Caribbean to write their best pieces of work. Writing under a mountain of snow and ice is fucking hard.
I want to blog, guys. I do. But between long work days and this weather laden with high winds and rain and something called "wintry mix" also known as the devil's fury my ability to be funny or even mildly amusing is flushed down the toilet along with Rocky Balboa's kitty litter poop. Yesterday I woke up with every intention to walk to work and was greeted by this.
I called the taxi company and got through on my twenty-first try. The wait was two hours and I decided to brave the cold and walk the few blocks to the Reunion Tower which is where I'm working. I had a pep in my step and was ready to take on the world when I exited John's building with my coat and thick winter scarf in tow. I wasn't three steps into my walk when I slid on ice and fell on my ass, sliding halfway down the block. A homeless man had the kind heart to pick me up and say "You gotta be more careful with them there boots, sweetheart."
It's painfully obvious I'm from Florida because no one with half a brain would attempt to walk on ice with fashionable cowboy boots (unless they were planning to ice-skate to work). It took me half an hour to walk to the corner and finally realize I'd never make it. I considered taking off my shoes and walking to the only restaurant that was open across the street.
Instead I just stood there on the verge of tears feeling hopeless. I half crawled, half stomped back to the building only to find out it was closed. I then realized my fingers were purple and immobile under the shitty gloves I'd brought with me from Miami. The building next to John's was open and I took refuge in it, thanking God for his wintry grace. I sat on the floor like a bum and waited for my co-worker to come and pick me up.
She took two hours.
After my shift, I got home and concluded I was delusional when I said I'd love to move somewhere cold. Also, I'm really happy I'm not a bird.
Rocky Balboa agrees.

Welcome to North Texas.
Rocky look like one mean pussy! Awwww, I so need another cat!!! lol
I absolutely LOVE the boots, practical or not. I would have tried to do the same thing because I don't think about how my shoes will fare in the world until I'm out in it.

That's going to be me in about 3 weeks. I so *wisely* chose to move to the mountains . . . where it snows. And freezes.
(Resisting urge to slap myself)

Love you boots Annah and I feel your pain being in that mess. We are having almost Miami weather here in NC today but surely it won't last long. Be careful, wouldn't want you breaking anything.
Odie
I still ask myself why people "love" the cold weather lol. That shit is miserable and totally annoying, good luck in Dallas. Take it as an oppurtunity to learn to skate :)
That doesn't look that bad. Though my frame of reference is probably skewed... I'm Canadian. Every time I walk to work in -30 weather (without windchill) I ask myself why I live here.
The pictures you have displayed with the text of this blog do not at all reflect the severity of the weather you describe.
Does living in Miami make one a wimp in other ways to? If someone tries to mug you, do you just hand over your purse and say: "have a good day?"
I wish it would now a whole lot more here in Colorado.
:-(
p.s. sexy boots

Brrrr. Looks like PA right now.
Rocky is so cute.
snow is pretty lame if you didn't grow up with it. having grown up in new york and moved to florida as an adult, i fucking hate it here. it's too hot from may-september. i can't wait to move back to new york.
Yeah... My view from my window is slightly different. Canadian, in Montreal... it feels like -25 C over here, with winds at 30km/h (don't know what that is in miles)and 10 cm worth of snow falling today (only today. We're in for another 5 cm every day this week!) I hate to say it, but this is one time I cannot be sympathetic. Canadians have been dealing with worse for freaking EVER! Oh, and p.s. only elementary schools are closed in this weather. Everyone else has to go and get edumacated!!!!!!
Thas cold.
Another Canadian and we call that amount of snow May (or September)
Great boots anyway. And just a tip - walking in boots like that in the snow/ice is kind of like getting your sea legs, it just takes some practice
LOL. I'm sorry I don't mean to laugh. I know you aren't used these weather conditions. But if I were to show you a picture of what its doing outside for me, you may think that where you are really isn't that bad.
Either way, get urself some real boots girl. Breaking your back is not worth it for style.

This is in Texas?!? I thought it was supposed to be hot there. Do you think maybe you got off on the wrong stop? Like maybe it was a through flight that was going through Chicago first?
What part of Texas are you in that you have power consistently? I'm in far less dire conditions (no snow and ice yet, unfortunately) and the whole city is having power outages!
Great boots, by the way. They make not keep you from falling on your butt, but they'll keep your feet dry and relatively warm.
Oh My Goodness if I could move some where that the weather never gets cold or have a wintry mix I would in a heart beat! I hate this weather so much and cannot wait to get down to Florida in a month! Love the boots though they are fabulous!
You'll find your blogging groove soon enough. Moving to a new place has constipated your imagination. You need a little inspiration laxative and you'll be good as new! Yeah, I know, that was gross . . .
We only get cold once a year. You will be ok Annah! Soak TX in!
Get a sunny beach picture, write on it: "F*** winter, Spring is just around the corner, ready to kick your sorry ass" (in big bright capital bold letters) and make it your new desktop wallpaper! That should boost your mood when you'll turn your computer on, in order to delight the world with one of your fab posts ;)
(Also works: "Winter get out of my way, I've got a date with fame)
I gotta side with CBG here. I live in Minnesota and it seems to have been dumping 'wintry mix' on us every day since August. :)
OH NO!!! I hope your ok! At least you dont have to brave 50 feet of snow!
Ha. HAHAHAHA! Now you know first hand what I'm talking about when I bitch about winter. :)
I share your pain! Sorry you fell but OMG, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the boots! Did you get them in Dallas? I'm just grateful we have power now. These rolling blackouts suck ass. We're not used to this silly weather! I want my sun and my humidity back! Have fun while in the Big D and stay warm! Oh yeah, quit falling! lol
Wait. Did you MOVE to Dallas? As in permanently???
I remember when I first moved to Idaho from California. It was pretty horrible. So I sympathize. But, at the same time, I don't feel that bad for you. I live in fucking Idaho. Have you ever been to Idaho? Of course not. Nobody comes here. It sucks. It was 18 below on my way to work this morning. I couldn't have walked to work either. But not because I would've slipped and fallen. Because I would've died of hypothermia. (Or something. Whatever it is that people die of when they're dumb enough to hang out outside when it's 18 below.) Anyway, just thought I'd put it into perspective a bit. I'd definitely trade places with you. Especially if you threw in the boots. ; )
Being from California, I know full well I can't do cold. It gets down to 50, and I'm convinced it's going to snow. I feel for you, cute boots though.
No worries. By the weekend, it should be pretty nice :)
Awww, poor you! Sounds like a horrible day :/ I've actually perfected the art of walking on ice in cowboy boots but 10 years in Michigan is still not enough time to get used to this weather! Stay warm!

The only boots capable of not letting you fall on your ass aren't sold in Miami. That's just the way it is in winter in the north. It sucks! That's why I moved to SC. The week before we moved here I slipped on ice and cracked a bone in my foot. Fun is. Great boots though.
You could come up north a bit to Oklahoma City where we've been shut down for two damn days. The tires of my car are encased in ice....sucks. I'm hoping that we're able to get out of the parking lot to go to work tomorrow. Have fun for the rest of your trip....be careful walking.
I would love to go back to Florida.
It was 38 degrees in NYC today - I thought it was warm out...LOL
hahahaha... "mountain of ice and snow" You wouldn't want to be in Chicago right now... There are literally mountains of snow here... no joke :(
After reading all your comments I felt like a big ol' whiner. Then I went outside and said fuck that. I will whine as I please, guys. It's cold as shit.
Sorry to all my Canadian readers. I love you and send you hot chocolate blizzards your way.
Yvonne: Me? Dallas? Permanently? Hmmmmm. Negative.
Maybe. But no. Negative.
HUGS.
Yeah it's crappy outside. Dallas has me pissed though we have rolling blackouts even the public hospital lost power but the stadium never did really annoying. Plus I have to walk over a mile to work in this crap grrrrr
Don't worry, sugar.
I teetered all over London in stillettos through the snow and ice.
I looked ridiculous, of course, but I refuse to be beaten.
Hope you can enjoy it at all?
- B x
Wow. While you were freezing and sliding all over the place, it was a blmy 65 degrees here yesterday.
Not to brag or anything.....
XXOO
Don't worry about sounding whiny at all, Annah dear, cold is cold, and I am authorized to give you such a "complaining about the cold pass" because I have been in sub-SUB-freezing temps. There is a reason that the Scots have the expression "it's colder than a witch's tit in a brass bra" and I know firsthand why!
I hope that the tall men and margaritas are helping you keep warm.~
Also, as I've told everyone, no need to follow the "rules", but I've awardified you:

Oh geeze, that sounds really terrible. Thank goodness you were able to get in somewhere to wait. We had a blizzard here in WI on tuesday, the governor declared a state of emergency yesterday! This weather everywhere is crazy! Be careful out there.
Its great to see that people are sharing quite profitable information with each other and now we can move our selves to a new era.
I love how because you were going to "Texas"
you decided to bring - Cowboy boots
bahahahahaha you crack me up my friend
I dig those boots.
I'm sorry about the weather. Same thing's happening here, sans the snow. But the cold and wind is like nothing I've ever seen. We were without water and gas for a while!
Just be glad you aren't in Chicago. Those pictures there barely qualify as winter.
I did the same very recently as I was leaving my boyfriend's house. I cried like a little girl for a sec, and scared the shit out of my half-naked boyfriend who was getting in the shower when I went inside to tell him. He was slightly disappointed that someone didn't DIE like he had assumed based on the look on my face. It was great.
