The Best Things In Life Are Free (Or Made Of Chocolate).

What is this asides from a trippy picture of Bruno looking incredibly confused as I force him to pose in a corner of my room? Why, it's a picture of my barren bookcase looking happy because I donated twelve books to my local library today.

There are some people in this world who hog clothes, others cars, and some, several boxes of tampons (I don't know who would do such a thing). Yet for me, books are remarkably difficult to get rid of and often cram up my closet floor and clothing drawers. It's not likely I'll re-read a book after its initial consumption, especially considering my twenty page list on books-I-should-read-before-I-die that grows bigger each month, along with my entire year's worth of TIME magazine subscriptions that sit there untouched, resembling a glossy Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Today I decided to keep four very special books that I had intended to donate but instead will give away here. These books have all touched me in one way or another and I truly hope that whomever wins feels the same.

Behold the fabulous four:
There are only two things you must do in order to be a true winner. One, drop your name in the comment section with the name of the book you hope to win. Two, promise to do a giveaway of it on your own blog or Facebook once you're done reading it. After all, 'tis the season for giving.

p.s. If you win and my book ends up collecting dust like those TIME subscriptions on my nightstand, I will come after you.

The Commoner sounds great. I will do the same as smarty pants as well, and throw in one of my own books when I'm done reading the commoner. If I get it :) I think it's a great idea to donate books to your local library!

Yo man. Water For Elephants sounds like a winner to me. The Color Purple is a classic, but a bit too heavy at the moment and David Sedaris might be too sick and twisted for the season.

....So what if we think the book sucks? Do we still have to give it away. "Here... Janice, you douchebag, read this book I hate." You know what, I'm okay with either outcome. Toss my name in.

No me digas! I've been dying to do a give away on my blog. But all I had in mind was a 200 dollar pair of leather daddy pants a friend left in my apartment about nine years ago and have been following me from move to move for ever since. Some how I think great literature is longer lasting.

My name is Dugaldo Estrada and I'd like to read and give away The Color Purple by Alice Walker please! And maybe I'll throw in a pair of leather pants to sweeten the deal.

Water for elephants, definitely!

Let's spread the love.

Dugaldo seriously your comments were making me crack up. Can you take a picture of the leather pants for me? Preferably with you in them. LMAO. Love!!!!

I'm currently embroiled in the reading of an epic series of very nerdy books but donating old ones is a good idea. I hope people don't mind reading books that have been in the bathroom with me and endured many a glorious dump.

I'd love to win (?) The Commoner and I promise that I will do a give away of my own with it after I finish most likely on my Facebook page.

Holidays on Ice is twisted? I just thought Sedaris was being acerbic. Well it's good you're spreading the love. Merry Christmas!

I'm not entering to win. I'm not lucky, and I don't need them. I've got eight large boxes I just packed all of my books into because we're moving and I couldn't fit any more in there. I'm just commenting because I want to know why you don't re-read your books after you finish them. I consider each and every single one of my way too many books as old friends that I like to visit over and over again.

Annah I think this book give away is AWESOME!!

Twice a year our local library system does a 4 or 5 day book sale (books are like $1). It's insane to see the amount of people clammoring for literature. The last one was in October and it brought a tear to my eye to see how many people were lined up for 3 blocks early on a Saturday morning waiting to buy books.

Anyway, I would love to have any of those books and vow to donate mine (and many others) to the library book sale in my town. (The proceeds benefit literacy programs).

Annah said...

KittyCat: It's the best shelf ever! :) And welcome !

Chanel: I don't re-read them because there's just not enough time and I have so many other books I want to read that it's crazy. I do have my select few that I will re-read like my Hemingway favorites and Khaled Hoseini books (I LOVE HIM SO MUCH). I also liked The Help a lot and I'm sure I will re-read eventually, but not soon enough to not give away and share the book lovin'. Also, I love getting rid of things. It makes me feel good. Not only because of the giving aspect, but because I feel like I'm freeing up space for new awesomeness (if that makes any sense).

Florida: That sounds really beautiful and like a great way to spend a Saturday morning. Meeting new people and buying cheap books. Thanks for the smiles.

Umm.... at the risk of being greedy here.... I'm going to say ALL FOUR! But since you're so nice, THAT isn't going to happen. lol. So.... I'll stick to Holidays on Ice.

Plus, I live in town.... I WILL save you shipping charges and will probably offer to bring alcohol on my visit to pick them up. :)

Oh, decisions! I'm seriously interested in Water for Elephants, Holidays on Ice, AND Commoners.

But I think I'll ask for Commoners, because maybe I'll have a better chance of getting that one. ^_^

I'm an English major, and I promise to be good to your lovely book if I am granted the privilege of reading it!
